Track Accommodation

Being a National Park the public accommodation options in the Abel Tasman National Park are somewhat limited.

The two areas where most accommodation is located is the Anchorage and Torrent Bay area and the south side of the Awaroa Inlet.

A wide range of accommodation has also developed outside the park at Marahau where the Abel Tasman Coastal Track begins and in Golden Bay at the north end of the track.

There are plentiful campsites along the way, some with water access only, and the Department of Conservation has huts (bunk houses) at Anchorage, Bark Bay & Awaroa. Those using these facilities have to carry all food, cooking gear, clothes and sleeping bags.

Here is a brief description of the accommodations we stay in while walking the Abel Tasman track.

At Anchorage

Aquapackers Boat Private Rooms & Shared Dorm Rooms

The Aquapackers boat is moored in Anchorage Bay and has 3 private rooms. They are all doubles however one can be split into either a twin or a private  bunkroom with 2 sets of bunks sleeping 4 people. They are comfortable and everything is supplied. There are shared bathrooms.

There are also 2 shared dorm rooms sleeping 7 people in total. These rooms are very basic with bunk beds and are located in the hull of the boat. They share the bathrooms located upstairs.

At 7pm there is a BBQ evening meal provided on the top deck and in the morning a breakfast of cereals and toast is provided. They provide on demand shuttles to and from the beach.

Our guests really enjoy spending the night on a boat. It is a unique experience in a beautiful part of New Zealand.
